Great Brak Beach Clean-Up

Giving One Another Love & Support (GOALS) are planning a beach clean-up in Great Brak River area to help educate around 30 children about recycling and cleaning the environment around them. This wonderful initiative is not just about cleaning up the beach, but also about sifting through the litter that has been picked up to identify what can be recycled. It is our hope that this initiative will have a ripple effect, even if it is small, and influence parents and elders in the community to act.

GOALS NPO strive to host a beach clean-up once a quarter to continuously educate the kids from underprivileged areas in the Mossel Bay municipality. The funds they receive will go towards transportation from their area to the beach where the clean-up initiative will take place, and to provide each participating child with a meal.

We wish GOALS NPO luck with this initiative and look forward to hearing about what the kids learned and how the clean-up event went.

Update: February 2025

GOALS NPO recently hosted a successful beach clean-up at Sowesia Beach in Great Brak River on 8 January 2025. Recognising the need to intervene after the busy holiday season, they worked together with local children, to clear litter and improve the popular day camping spot.

The event was not only about cleaning but also about education—helping young members of the community understand their role in protecting and maintaining their local environment. The cleanup covered the entire beach area, effectively resolving the issue and leaving the space in much better condition for residents and visitors alike. The children thoroughly enjoyed the experience, and they are grateful to everyone who made this initiative possible.

With the remaining funds from their Friends Small Grant, the GOALS NPO team are planning on hosting an additional beach clean-up event.
