Nature lovers and citizen scientists — this one’s for you!
Join the Garden Route region for the 10th annual City Nature Challenge (CNC), a global event where cities across the world unite to document, celebrate, and protect local biodiversity.
Why Take Part?
The Garden Route is one of South Africa’s natural treasures, home to unique ecosystems like fynbos, forests, wetlands, and marine habitats. By participating, you’ll help showcase and safeguard this extraordinary region while contributing valuable data for global conservation efforts.
How It Works:
📸 Observe & Record: From 25 to 28 April, snap photos of wild plants, animals, fungi, or wildlife evidence like tracks or nests — in your garden, a park, beach, or nature reserve.
📱 Upload to iNaturalist: Use the free iNaturalist app or website to share your observations with the global community.
🔍 Help Identify: From 29 April to 4 May, assist by identifying species recorded during the challenge.
🎉 Get Involved: Invite friends, family, schools, and community groups. The more people join, the greater the impact!
Make It an Adventure!
Turn the challenge into an exciting personal or group quest. Plan outings, friendly competitions, or backyard safaris — you’ll be amazed by the biodiversity you’ll uncover.
