The Midbrak Conservancy implemented a three-month awareness campaign to increase understanding of its role within the UNESCO-designated Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve and the ecological significance of their area. The project ran from 1 November 2025 to 31 January 2026 and focused on strengthening awareness among residents, visitors, and local stakeholders.
The project included the development of the awareness brochure in collaboration with GCBR, the launch event at Klipheuwel, and engagement activities led by Midbrak Conservancy committee members and volunteers.
The campaign was launched on a radio interview with Fred Orban on Streek FM on 30 October 2025. This was followed by outreach activities at Klipheuwel on 1 November 2025, where approximately 200 families were engaged. Brochures were distributed and direct conversations were held with community members to share information about the Conservancy and its place in the Gouritz Cluster Biosphere Reserve.
During the December holiday period, the campaign continued at Brinkleys Village, Kleinbrak Beach, and the Grootbrak Family Market, where 500 brochures were distributed. A further 250 brochures were provided to Midbrak Hardware and distributed to their customers.
Local estate agencies were also supplied with an electronic version of the brochure for use with prospective homebuyers. Positive feedback was received, particularly regarding the value of informing buyers that properties are located within a conservancy that is in a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve.
We are proud to have supported this awareness project and look forward to seeing how community engagement in conservation continues to grow in the Midbrak area.
